Yang's legs gave way, her momentum carrying her forward until she crashed down. Ruby's cape flew over them both, and Yang struggled to shift her weight onto her good arm. Ruby lay in her arms, unconscious. Yang's wounds burned like fire, and her tattered clothes were soaked with blood. She was certain she had a broken arm, a few broken ribs, a highly-damaged knee, a scratched eye, and internal bleeding at least, along with many scrapes and cuts. She couldn't tell how badly wounded Ruby was, lying there in her arms with her cape covering a good portion of her body. Yang pulled her little sister close, her hand resting on the back of her head, feeling overwhelmed with pain and fear.
Closing her good eye, she tried to think of what to do next. Nothing she thought of would ensure both of them to survive. Yang couldn't carry Ruby with her bad knee. She also couldn't get up to get help. It was possible to drag herself, but how far could she get with a broken arm? And Ruby, oh her dear sister Ruby. Yang felt hot tears trembling on the edges of her eyelids. I'm so sorry. I couldn't protect you... and I'll never be able to save you like this. If only I was stronger... Her eyes closed tight, Yang began to drift into a dark sleep...
“Where did they run off to? YANG! RUBY!” Someone was calling for them. Yang tried to stir, but the safety of sleep seemed to drag her down, down, down...No...Not yet...I need to..save..Ruby... Opening an eye, Yang turned her head to the left as she saw something moving along the tree tops. Blake... Her partner was moving top-speed; Yang would miss her only chance to save Ruby if she didn't act now. Using the last of her strength, she lifted her free arm, firing off Ember Celica with the few shells she had left. She hoped Blake would notice (as if it was hard to notice the sound of a gun going off) and come to help.
Her attempt at getting her partner's attention worked; she even saw Blake's bow twitch as her head turned to find the source of the sound. Yang grinned through the pain as her partner signaled to someone before jumping down and running to her. Weiss appeared behind Blake atop the treeline, jumping through the air and landing on one of her conjured platforms. Blake had reached the sisters, first checking that Ruby was alive, then looking up into Yang's lilac eyes and asking clearly, “Are you okay?” Yang smirked, “Do I look okay to you?” Weiss had almost reached them now.
“Can you stand?”
“No...” the world was beginning to spin now. Blake was suddenly very blurry, and Ruby's cape made the ground look like it was covered in blood. “...just...take care.... of sis....” Weiss caught up to Blake in time to see Yang's eyes close tight; the last thing Yang remembered was hearing Blake gasp and Weiss shriek before she fell unconscious.
